The old Curtis-Wright barracks (Grosse Ile Pilot House), built as a mess hall and dormitory and used as senior officers’ quarters and club from 1933 until the base closed in 1969, still stands. Arthur C. Cortis established the Grosse Ile Pilot House in 1981. All the rooms have been renovated for overnight and long-term guest lodging. Arthur’s son, Jim Cortis, carries on the business today. The Grosse Ile Pilot House has modern comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. We are your home away from home and pride ourselves in making you feel like family when staying with us. We look forward to being of service to you.
